Background
Boots the Chemists is one of the best-known retail names in the UK, providing Health & Beauty products and advice that enhance personal wellbeing.
The Challenge
In a drive to both consolidate and improve their marketplace position, Boots appointed a select number of consultants to carry out a four-year programme to revamp all stores within their portfolio. The work involved showcasing their Health & Beauty content and rolling out the latest initiatives, whilst presenting a consistent brand image in all locations. The brief required that there should be minimum disruption to trading during the refurbishment period, requiring overnight working and a challenging phasing programme.
The Solution
Over the past two years L&H Solutions has successfully managed a substantial segment of this 're-invigoration' programme, involving the refurbishment of almost 300 branches to date. The programme is set to continue into 2005.
A parallel initiative, managed by L&H Solutions, is the implementation of a 'till update' programme throughout the estate, utilising a touch screen till system, with no disruption to trading and sales. This programme is well advanced, with in excess of 600 stores already converted and approximately 400 stores still to be implemented. The programme is due for completion in March 2005 with conversions in the final quarter expected to increase to 30 stores a week.
L&H Solutions continue to work alongside L&H Architecture in managing the design and delivery of Boots' substantial Edge of Town store development programme, together with a major store refurbishment programme and the rollout of several new in-store initiatives.
